Name the Snow Leopard Cub

9/27/25

CUB UPDATE:

Our snow leopard cub is ready to start exploring!

Starting this week, the cub and mom (Denali) will have access to the public-facing snow leopard habitat. During this process, it will be up to them whether they venture out, or stay behind the scenes, so we appreciate your patience.

On alternate days, dad (Strut) will have access to the exhibit. Like in the wild, male snow leopards do not participate in raising cubs. Be sure to check the board inside the Asian Cat Pagoda for which cats are out each day.

AND…

We need your help choosing the cub’s name!

Staff have narrowed it down to three names:

  • Asha (hope or wish)
  • Isha (goddess or ruler)
  • Maiya (little girl or dear one)

These names all come from the Nepalese language, which is spoken in the region where wild snow leopards live.

Proceeds from your vote benefit the care of the snow leopards living on the Great Plains Zoo campus. Voting runs through ZooBoo, closing at midnight on October 18.
