Welcoming Amur Tiger Zuzaan

September 25, 2005

Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium’s (SFZA) Carnivore team is working to introduce two-year-old Amur tiger Zuzaan to the public-facing habitat. Zuzaan arrived at SFZA’s Great Plains Zoo (GPZ) campus during the summer, and has been working behind the scenes with his care team to acclimate to his new surroundings and bond with his keepers.

During this process, Zuzaan will have access to the habitat, but will have the choice to return behind the scenes any time. As a result, he may not be visible to the public.*

Zuzaan was born at Rosamond Gifford Zoo in 2023. The Great Plains Zoo has been home to Amur tigers since 1969, and we are delighted to continue our work with this critically endangered species.

*Please note: While Zuzaan continues to explore and get acclimated to his new surroundings, he will have exhibit access on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He will also have access to his behind-the-scenes exhibit and may choose to spend time out of the public eye on these days.
