Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium’s (SFZA) American Red Wolf pack’s habitat is being renovated during the summer of 2025. To accommodate this work, the seven wolves have moved to the African painted dog (APD) yard across from the Savanna. The ADPs have moved to the south end of the African lion habitat, since the lions are now living together on the north end of the building. The red fox has moved behind the scenes.
This temporary move brings the opportunity to see these animals from new perspectives during summer 2025. The wolves may be viewable from the train, as well as the boardwalk. The APD/tortoise building will remain closed for the duration of the wolves’ stay, to give the pack privacy while in their den.
The APDs may also be viewable from the train. They have access to the south exhibit yard, as well as a back space viewable only from the train.
The species-specific renovations to the American Red Wolf habitat aim to give the wolves a more naturalistic home with landscaping and structures that allow for ample privacy and pack-building behavior.
